Tama Drum Sets, A Cut Above the Rest

Tama drums sets have been in business for over 30 years and make great drum sets that are suitable for the beginner as well as for the professional musician.   There are three types of drum sets that are produced by TAMA.  The most common include the Starclassic, Superstar, and Imperialstar sets.  Innovation is the word most musicians think of when they hear the name TAMA.   The company has tried to make drums better and please the musician with new designs and new materials.  Some of their ideas have made it possible for drum sets to evolve into practical combinations that make music better.

How Made Tama Drum Sets

TAMA drum stands are not like drum stands of the past that were very lightweight and would fall over if the drummer got into the music.  TAMA drum sets are made with sturdier materials and they were the first to make the double braced hardware and multi-clamps.  These stands will not fall over no matter how the drummer plays. All the other hardware allows for fast set up and take down, much easier than other drum sets.  TAMA also came up with a chain drive pedal for the bass drum along with twin pedals  for the X-hat auxiliary and hi-hat symbols.   TAMA drum sets all come with the double pedals now as it is standards.  You can’t say that with other drum manufacturers.  Their pedals give the best feel and are true to the time.  TAMA drums are a little different than most.   They have a Gong Bass Drum and Tymp-Toms that give the feel of having a set of tympani at hand.  They also came up with Artstar drums that have thin shells allowing the drum to vibrate from shell to the head and they are durable to boot.  Most thin shell’s tend to break when under high tension and a heavy hand while these stand up to a beating.  Another innovative drum is the Octobans.  This is several small drums incorporated in a large body.  The drums produce octave range pitches.

TAMA drum set called the Starclassic came out in 1994.  The shells are all thin yet durable.  They offered a new mounting system called the Star-Cast system.  This system is easy to set up and tuning of the drums was not affected by mounting on a free floating system.  They were the first to offer this system and many other drum companies have copied this system.  There are several Starclassic designs.  One is the Maple that uses a maple shells and this one is a bit on the expensive side.   Starclassic Performer is a mid range set and uses birch shells.  The Starclassic Performer EFX has an air seal bass drum and looks like the Performer series. 

The next TAMA drum set is called the and it comes in several designs as well.   There is the Superstar Custom which is a bit of a lower range set.   It uses both birch and basswood shells and sounds great.  It comes in many different colors.  The Superstar EFX drum set is like the custom but is better for a beginner.  You aren’t going to spend a great deal of money if the beginner isn’t going to keep up with it.    is definable for the beginner at an affordable price.  A beginner should need nothing else  and it has a pretty good sound.   Swingstar is more expensive and is beautiful being made from mahogany from the Philippines.   It is still considered a beginner set but looks really nice.  Stagestar is one of the smallest of the TAMA drum sets so if you have a small amount of room to put a set in, you will want this set.  This set is also very affordable.

Why Tama drum sets are suitable

Most of the TAMA drum sets come with 5 conventional pieces and you can add to this drum collection.  All drum heads are made from their specifications with Mylar giving the drums a nice sound.   Most of their sets are affordable and suitable for both the beginner and the drummer that is currently playing in a band.  They are a great option for any drummer.
